A symbol of Canada’s history of music and television, Canada Post introduces a series of stamps celebrating the MuchMusic and MusiquePlus specialty TV channels. Dubbed “the nation’s music station”, MuchMusic has welcomed national and international music artists to its Toronto studio. MusiquePlus, founded in 1986, has played an important role in promoting Quebec and French-Canadian music, as well as broadcasting videos of artists from around the world.
On a black canvas, electrically-colored characters by illustrator Mike Haddad come to life in a composition and graphic style evocative of 1980s design. Through the highly stylized drawing of the channel buildings, the illustration harkens back to the urban art of that era. The cover of the notebook shows a crowd massing in front of the MuchMusic and MusiquePlus studios: a palpable effervescence of major cultural events. The inside of the booklet contains four stamps of each motif, and features the channels’ vibrant color blocks on the back.
