Organized by the Buffalo AKG Art Museum, this major touring exhibition is the most comprehensive survey ever devoted to the groundbreaking artist Marisol (1930–2016). An engaged artist and a leading figure of her generation, Marisol Escobar rose to fame on the New York and international art scenes for her sculpture practice and works in other media, including drawing, printmaking, and photography. She also designed sets and costumes for dance companies and would eventually create public monuments to historical figures around the world.
Paprika created the exhibition’s notoriety campaign, which was also adapted for the exhibition spaces. Entitled “un Marisol monumental,” it evokes the monumental scale of her wood sculptures, which push beyond the boundaries of the background canvas itself. The palette of saturated pastels, unique to the 1950s and 1960s, is a nod to the important decades in the artist’s career. The campaign featured posters, video ads, and typography work for exhibition wall labels.
