Every year, the Société de Développement Commercial du Village gai (SDC), or The Gay Village Commercial Development Society, organizes Aires Libres with the aim to promote this famous Montreal neighbourhood. In summer, Aires Libres transforms Sainte-Catherine Street East into a pedestrian street and open-air gallery.
For a second year, Paprika was invited to think up the Aire Banque Nationale located in the Amherst Park. As our anamorphic installation from the previous year had attracted quite the crowds, we did it again, but this time around with a new optical effect. Six immense and luminous black and white panels were erected and pierced in the center. Depending on the passers-by’ location, they could see illustrations or words which were unreadable from another position. Invited to wander through those nebulous dream-like images, the passers-by took true pleasure in discovering the installation’s hidden treasures.
